TEA identifies Humble ISD schools for firsthand look at hurricane impact
The Texas Education Agency identified Summer Creek High School and Kingwood High School as places for U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos to visit and see firsthand the ongoing rebuilding and recovery in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. The Secretary is assessing how the Department of Education can continue to coordinate and support Texas, schools and students. On Nov. 15, she spent the morning at schools in Port Aransas and the afternoon in Humble ISD. She also has toured hurricane-impacted schools in Florida, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Region 4 Education Service Center, which serves more than 50 districts in the area, also set up a roundtable in which principals and teachers shared how Harvey has impacted their students and schools.
