Super Staffers sponsored by Humble ISD Education Foundation

Humble ISD’s Super Staffers of the Month were recognized at the regularly scheduled Board Meeting on October 10. Thanks to Humble ISD Education Foundation for sponsoring this month's Super Staffers! Pictured from left are School Board President Angela Conrad, Humble ISD Education Foundation Board Chairwoman Jen Sitton, Child Nutrition Services Maintenance Supervisor Henry Parrish, and Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Fagen. Not pictured are Deerwood Paraeducator Dawn Swanson and Timberwood Social Studies Teacher Layna Murphy.

Honored at the Board Meeting were the following Super Staffers:

Dawn Swanson, Deerwood Elementary Paraeducator

Those who nominated her said, "Dawn not only helps her students with special physical needs, but also the Steps Plus students each day. In the afternoons, she ensures all children are safely and comfortably in their classrooms. Although her house flooded and she is temporarily living downtown, she manages extra duties with a great attitude. Caring and committed, Dawn is a wonderful employee working tirelessly each day to close the gap towards excellence for our students and families."

Layna Murphy — Timberwood Middle School Social Studies Teacher

Those who nominated her said, "Layna is a first year teacher and already she is off to a great start with her students. There is one student in particular who has had a rough start to the school year that she has managed to build a great rapport with. He not only respects her, but he loves going to Texas History because she is his favorite teacher. She has gone above and beyond to build a relationship with not only this student, but all her students."

Henry Parrish, Child Nutrition Services Maintenance Supervisor

Those who nominated him said, "Henry Parrish supervises the seven-member Child Nutrition Department maintenance staff. Henry, literally, is on-call 24-7 to ensure that Child Nutrition kitchen equipment is working properly to provide quality meals to Humble ISD students. Henry’s positive attitude and calm demeanor make him a real leader, especially during a crisis. Henry traveled throughout the district during Hurricane Harvey to monitor freezers, coolers and protect our food supplies. He is respected by all who work with him. I don’t know what we would do without him."

Each month, campuses and departments select an individual to be honored as a Super Staffer for their outstanding work in advancing student achievement. A drawing is held and three honorees receive additional recognition at the School Board Meeting, including a $100 gift card to Pappas Restaurants thanks to an award sponsor. The sponsor for the Super Staffer Awards this month is Humble ISD Education Foundation.
