Humble ISD receives over 700 backpacks stuffed with school supplies from community members
Woodlands Church of Atascocita traveled to North Belt Elementary to deliver backpacks and school supplies before the start of the school year. However, North Belt isn’t the only campus they stopped by. For the last nine years the organization has partnered with several Humble ISD campuses to provide school supplies and backpacks for students at the beginning of school.
Through monetary donations, the organization was able to provide 745 backpacks to seven elementary campuses. Foster Elementary, Oaks Elementary, Park Lakes Elementary, Ridge Creek Elementary, River Pines Elementary, and Whispering Pines Elementary are also recipients of this annual donation. Inside each backpack is an encouraging note, a pencil box, pencils, colored pencils, scissors, dry erase markers, a spiral notebook, a box of tissues, and even a pack of unscented hand wipes.
“Our hope is that each backpack will help a student gain confidence in knowing someone cares and believes in them,” Megan Smith, Woodlands Church of Atascocita Local Missions Leader, said. Smith’s children accompanied her with several other volunteers to deliver the backpacks and additional school supplies. “If we can teach our children to lend a hand, be kind and give of themselves, then this world is going to be a better place.”
