Four Kingwood Elementary Schools will compete during the annual 'Get in the Game' kickball tournament fundraiser

Get in the Game Kickball Tournament

It’s time for this year’s annual “Get in the Game” festivities!  The four vertical elementary schools, Bear Branch Elementary, Elm Grove Elementary, Foster Elementary, and Woodland Hills Elementary that feed into Kingwood Middle School and Kingwood Park High School will compete in this year’s community kickball tournament.  The principals at these four elementary schools met last year and brought the “Get in the Game” vision to life through a community softball tournament.  The schools agreed to compete in “Get in the Game” for four years to support the fundraising needs of each.  This year, the Elm Grove Elementary playground campaign will be the beneficiary of the funds raised.

WHAT: Every year, Bear Branch Elementary, Elm Grove Elementary, Foster Elementary, and Woodland Hills Elementary form a team to compete and raise money. Each year, the funds go to a different school. This time the funds will go directly to Elm Grove Elementary.  This year’s tournament will feature at pre-game show.  Foster Elementary will perform their “Spring Concert,” with the Eagle Drummers of Elm Grove performing, and the Beartone’s of Bear Branch Elementary will sing the National Anthem. Laurie Purcell, Music Ministry Director of Strawbridge United Methodist Church will sing, “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”

Strawbridge United Methodist Church is a supporter of Elm Grove Elementary and has offered to help the school raise $15,000 through this year’s event. The church challenged the parents of the school and the community to raise $5,000 by the end of the Community kickball tournament on Friday, May 6, 2016.  If this happens, Strawbridge United Methodist Church will donate $5,000.00 and then this amount will be matched by the Texas Annual Conference.  For every dollar donated, $2.00 will added by Strawbridge United Methodist Church and the Texas Annual Conference.

“Get in the Game” will feature lots of fun for the kids. The Kingwood Middle School Student Council and Strawbridge United Methodist Church will sponsor a Kiddie Korner with inflatables and face painting for all kids attending the event. Dr. Sconzo will get the honor to roll out the first kickball pitch. Humble ISD Assistant Superintendent of High Schools, Trey Kraemer, will umpire along with colleagues Dr. Tommy Price, Melissa Hayhurst, Cathy Airola, and Deborah Yoakum. Bob Atteberry, Principal of Kingwood Middle School and Dan DiGregorio, owner of Postal Annex Plus will be the announcers for the Kickball Tournament.
