Norman Funderburk sponsors Super Staffers of the Month

SuperStaffers-NFunderburk-Feb2016

Humble ISD’s Super Staffers of the Month were recognized at the regularly scheduled Board Meeting on March 8. Thanks to Humble City Council Member Norman Funderburk for sponsoring this month's Super Staffers! Pictured above are Norman Funderburk, Oaks Elementary Teacher Holly Bohlmeyer, Humble High School Science and Fine Arts Teacher Chelsea Newman, and Child Nutrition Supervisor Jennifer Johnson.

Honored at the Board Meeting were the following Super Staffers:

Holly Bohlmeyer Oaks Elementary Special Education Teacher

Those who nominated her said, "Holly is a special education teacher at Oaks Elementary. She makes sure all students are engaged and explains material in a way that students can comprehend. She is able to break the information down for her students to understand and then brings students up to the grade level who are academically behind. Holly is a "behind the scenes" type of person. She always jumps in and works with students even if they are not her own students. She stays late to tutor students weekly. Holly also works with parents and gives them the tools to help their child at home. She truly goes above and beyond at closing the achievement gap for all students."

Chelsea Newman — Humble High School Science & Fine Arts Teacher

Those who nominated her said, "Ms. Newman is an inspirational Biology and dance teacher. She lives by the idea of "How can we make this better?" She embraces new instructional strategies and is always willing to try new things to find what works best for her students. As the biology team leader, she inspires her team to constantly ask themselves "What is best for my students?" She spends countless hours before and after school, on weekends, holidays, and summer getting ready for her time in class with students, like it is a competition and she intends each of her students to win first place. She attends more school functions than anyone I know to support her students and let them know that she cares about who they are as a person. She spends so much time and energy building relationships with her students, their parents, and our community that it's impossible to not feel inspired and motivated to do more and be a better teacher when you're around her."

Jennifer Johnson — Child Nutrition Supervisor

Those who nominated her said, "Jennifer worked tirelessly to prepare her school for the USDA federal program audit. She trained staffed and carefully reviewed all documentation required. She spent time with her staff and supported them throughout the audit process. We appreciate her persistence and dedication."

Each month, campuses and departments select an individual to be honored as a Super Staffer for their outstanding work in advancing student achievement. A drawing is held and three honorees receive additional recognition at the School Board Meeting, including a $200 gift card to Pappas Restaurants thanks to an award sponsor. The sponsor for the Super Staffer Awards this month is Norman Funderburk.
