The Great Texas Read-Out Literature Festival


Children's Literature Festival_2015  

Humble ISD Librarians will host The Great Texas Read-Out Literature Festival on Saturday, Feb. 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lakeshore Elementary. This free event features six award-winning children book authors and includes a variety of interactive learning activities.

Duncan Tonatiuh – Sibert Award, Tomás Rivera Mexican American Children's Book Award, Pura Belpré Honor, and Texas Bluebonnet Award Nominee for Separate is Never Equal.

Phil Bildner – Texas Bluebonnet Award winner for Shoeless Joe & Black Betsy and Parent’s Choice Award Winner.

Don TateEzra Jack Keats New Writer Award Honor and Texas Bluebonnet Award Nominee for The Amazing Age of John Roy Lynch.

James Ponti – Texas Bluebonnet Award Nominee for Dead City.         

Melissa Williams – author and iWrite Founder, an organization that inspires kids to write their own stories and provides publishing and leadership opportunities to youth.

Mike Artell – 2009 Read Aloud Book of the Year recipient.

The event will begin with a school mascot parade, student performances, and a Draw-Off Contest with the illustrators followed by three sessions of author presentations. Throughout the day, children will enjoy crafts and activities in the library, concession stands outside, and a book fair where the authors’ books can be purchased.
