The Creekwood Middle School 2014-2015 Honors Band earned Commended Honors through the 2015 Mark of Excellence Project, a recorded music competition that offers bands, choirs, and orchestras the opportunity to earn national recognition for their musical achievement. There were 229 entries into the competition. The entries were judged after the 2014-2015 school year had ended.

“This year’s entries set a new standard of musical achievement with many stunning performances,” Rick Yancey, Managing Director of TFME's Mark of Excellence said. “These young students perform incredibly well, and that is a testament to their talent, training, and wonderful teachers!”

The directors for the CMS Honors Band are Missy Allen, Byron Clements and Ariel Gammons.

“We are very honored to be recognized as a Commended Winner in the National Wind Band Honors Competition,” Allen said. “The 2014-2015 Creekwood Honors Band performed at such a high level that we were able to choose high school level repertoire including Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis by Ralph Vaughan Williams and In the Center Ring by Robert Sheldon.

The judges also selected four CMS Honors Band students as outstanding soloists: Emily Anaya, clarinet; Isabel Bauhs, Trumpet; Makayla Albert, Flute; and Austin Hodges, Euphonium.

The CMS Honors Band is especially grateful for clinicians Eddie Green and Denis Kidwell for their help and guidance.

"Mr. Green’s and Mr. Kidwell’s guidance has helped expand our capacity as teachers to promote our student's success,” Allen said.
