Humble ISD named statewide finalist in two categories through H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards
Humble Independent School District has been named one of only six Large District finalists in the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards. Humble ISD’s Board of Trustees has also been named a statewide finalist in the School Board category. There are more than 1,000 school districts in the state.
“These two honors go hand in hand,” said Superintendent Dr. Guy Sconzo. “Humble ISD is home to an amazing group of educators who aim to provide every opportunity for student success. Our Board of Trustees understands and appreciates what it takes to make that happen in the classroom, and fully supports our schools in that mission.”
As a finalist, Humble ISD was awarded $5,000 and is in the running for a cash prize of $100,000 alongside other Large District finalists including Arlington ISD, Dripping Springs ISD, Harlingen ISD, Katy ISD and Valley View ISD. Humble ISD’s Board of Trustees has also been awarded a $5,000 grant for the District and may also be eligible for an additional cash prize of up to $25,000 at the discretion of the judges. Other Board finalists include Arlington ISD, Harlingen ISD, Northside ISD and Pasadena ISD.
To compete among the best in the state, Humble ISD and the Board of Trustees submitted applications and essays to demonstrate the District’s commitment to academic excellence, student achievement, innovative learning, efficient use of resources and community involvement.
“H-E-B is a longtime supporter of public education, and values the work of educators,” said Dr. Sconzo. “To be recognized by such a prestigious award program is a tremendous honor.”
Humble ISD and the Board of Trustees will be honored at the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards ceremony in Austin on May 3 when the winners in each category are announced. Judges will conduct site visits for finalists in both the Large District and School Board categories before determining winners.
The H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards recognizes outstanding educators in Texas whose leadership and dedication inspire a love of learning in students of all backgrounds and abilities. With more than $800,000 awarded to teachers, schools and districts annually, the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards is the largest monetary recognition program in Texas and among the largest in the nation.
