Summer Creek High School earns Safe Sports School Award from National Athletic Trainers Association
Sara Hansen is head athletic trainer and Brandon Rayne is assistant athletic trainer at Summer Creek High School.
“In order to achieve Safe Sport School status, Sara and her team were required to accomplish several goals including creating a positive athletic health care system, coordinating pre-participation physical examinations and promoting a safe and appropriate practice and competition facility,” said Robert Maniscalco, a certified and licensed athletic trainer and community outreach athletic trainer for Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital.
The Summer Creek athletic trainers also were required to provide an appropriately equipped area to evaluate and treat injured student athletes, develop an injury and illness prevention strategy, provide psychosocial and nutritional counseling, and provide safety education for the athletes and their parents.
“Physical activity is very important for our Summer Creek youth, but the safety of our students is equally important,” said Hansen, “that’s why this award is so significant to our athletic trainer team. It reinforces how important it is for us to provide the best level of care, injury prevention and treatment. Our goal always is to have the highest safety standards for our players.”
