Humble ISD Trustee Charles Cunningham Elected to Statewide Association Board
"He is a tireless advocate for education and will provide outstanding leadership that will benefit children's learning in our state," Dr. Guy Sconzo, Humble ISD superintendent, said.
Cunningham has served on the Humble ISD School Board since 2007, including as School Board president during the 2012-2013 school year. He is chairman of the Board’s Audit Committee and is a member of the Legislative, Program Evaluation, and Finance Committees. Cunningham graduated from Our Lady of the Lake University and works as key account consultant for CenterPoint Energy. He has lived in Humble for 20 years.
Cunningham is committed to providing an exemplary education for all students. “When education is a priority, our children, teachers and community win,” he said.
Cunningham was member of the Humble ISD Education Foundation Board in 2002-08, and on the Board of Directors in 2002-03; Humble ISD School Boundary Committee July 2003-August 2004; and president of his homeowner’s association 2009-10. He was vice-chair of the Governmental Affairs Committee of the Humble Chamber of Commerce in 2008-11.
Cunningham was elected as president of the Gulf Coast Area Association of School Boards in 2014. The GCAASB is composed of more than 50 school boards in the greater Houston area to enhance the quality of education for public school children by providing education and information to local school boards, and creating an opportunity for local school boards to impact legislation affecting public schools.
He was chair of the TASB Local Government Purchasing Cooperative board of directors in 2012-14.
An active member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Humble, Cunningham has held the positions of deacon in 1992, trustee in 1998, and finance chair since 2005.
