Humble ISD’s Super Staffers of the Month were recognized at the regularly scheduled Board Meeting on November 8. Thanks to  Humble ISD Education Foundation for sponsoring this month's Super Staffers! Pictured from left are Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Fagen, Maintenance Inventory Specialist Donald Phlegm II, AMS Tech Ed Teacher Darrell Tompkins, Bear Branch Elementary 3rd Grade Math & Science Teacher Shelly Hairell, and School Board Vice President Angela Conrad.

Honored at the Board Meeting were the following Super Staffers:

Shelly Hairell Bear Branch Elementary 3rd Grade Math & Science Teacher

Those who nominated her said, "Every single time you enter Shelly's classroom kids are thinking! They are thinking HARD! She really challenges learners with choice, opportunities for academic conversations and constantly asks WHY! She is doing a fabulous job of assessing knowledge and using data to drive her instruction. She puts an incredible amount of time and effort into creating math lessons that are engaging and thought provoking for her students. She takes risks and will try new things, and is always open to learning!"

Darrell Tompkins — Atascocita Middle School Tech Ed Teacher

Those who nominated him said, "Darrell Tompkins has returned to Humble ISD and is doing an outstanding job in developing rigorous curriculum in his Introduction to Engineering, Introduction to STEM, and Principles of Manufacturing classes at Atascocita Middle School. Students are actively engaged in his classroom, visibly excited to learn the material, and work very well in teams. Whether it's designing & launching rockets, designing & manufacturing CO2 cars, building bridges online, or working in their Google Classroom, Darrell is teaching his students how to apply skills and concepts in their academic learning to real life situations. In addition to the dedicated hard work with his students, Darrell is a model of team work among the AMS staff & faculty. He is regularly being asked by staff members to build things or fix things around the campus and he says "yes" with a smile! The culture of the "Tech Ed" classroom has made a complete turnaround in his return. AMS is very fortunate to have Darrell Tompkins!"

Donald Phegm II — Maintenance Department Inventory Specialist

Those who nominated him said, "Donald Phlegm is a hard working employee. He worked this Summer setting up the Maintenance/ Operations Tool Room and preparing it for audit. There were so many challenges and he was instrumental in helping repair all of the problems. Donald is truly an employee that comes up with a way to improve a process that results in a positive and efficient end result."

Each month, campuses and departments select an individual to be honored as a Super Staffer for their outstanding work in advancing student achievement. A drawing is held and three honorees receive additional recognition at the School Board Meeting, including a $200 gift card to Pappas Restaurants thanks to an award sponsor. The sponsor for the Super Staffer Awards this month is The Humble ISD Education Foundation.
