Park Lakes Elementary hosted over 100 dads and father figures for a Dads and Kids Pizza Night to kick off WATCH D.O.G.S.
WATCH D.O.G.S. is an innovative father involvement program that stands for Dads Of Great Students. The initiative encourages dads or father figures to volunteer at their children’s school, helping their student’s teacher and the school administrators.
The event started with fathers enjoying time coloring with their student(s), which was followed by pizza, games and raffle prizes.
Park Lakes Elementary father Ahmad Drumgo is a returning WATCH D.O.G. this year. Mr. Drumgo said, “ The concept of WATCH D.O.G.S. and being more active at my daughters school just made sense to me. It’s fun to be involved in the day to day action at the campus.”
WATCH D.O.G.S are invited to sign up for at least one day out of the school year to volunteer at the campus. Volunteering duties can be as simple as opening the doors during car rider drop off to making copies for the teachers in the copy room. Allowing teachers to spend more time in the classroom.
Returning WATCH D.O.G.S took the time to gather the dads in a separate meeting to explain how rewarding it is to volunteer at the school. Some of the dads try to volunteer at the campus once a week. At the end of the meeting dads in attendance were able to sign up for a day to come to the campus and volunteer.
The campus hopes that the WATCH D.O.G.S program will continue to grow each year and promote male role models to work alongside the Park Lakes educators to have a positive impact in the lives of their children.
