The Humble ISD Transportation Department partnered with the Houston-Galveston Area Council (HGAC) to help bring additional funds to the district in the form of a Clean Vehicles Grant. The grant provided $291,096 – approximately sixty percent of the cost - to buy five clean diesel buses. The new buses were put into service in March, 2016. As a stipulation of the grant, five older buses were removed from service. All new diesel buses must meet stringent federal EPA guidelines and emit a small fraction of the pollutants of diesel engines manufactured before 2010.
Humble ISD Transportation, a Best 100 Fleet in North America, strives to operate efficiently and protect its passengers as well as its environment. These grants make it possible to continue to modernize its fleet while retiring older buses.
