Humble ISD utilizing new SchoolCafe online meal payment system for 2016-2017
Parents and students are always welcome to pay by cash or check and not pay online convenience fees
Humble ISD is utilizing a new online meal payment system for the 2016-2017 school year. The new system is called SchoolCafé and can be accessed at www.schoolcafe.com or from www.humbleisd.net by selecting the fork and spoon circle icon near the top of the webpage.
Parents will need to create an account using their child's student ID the first time they visit SchoolCafé. If unknown, a student's ID can be found in Home Access Center (HAC) on the Registration page under Resources. Remaining funds from a student’s account last year automatically rolled over to the new SchoolCafé system.
Online payments are offered as a convenience. For online deposits, the minimum deposit is $10 and the maximum is $100. SchoolCafé charges a $1.95 convenience fee to accept an online deposit. Humble ISD does not receive the fee. The fee covers SchoolCafé’s cost to process deposits. Online deposits may be made by debit or credit cards with the Visa or Mastercard logo.
Humble ISD switched to SchoolCafé for 2016-2017 after experiencing data transmission challenges with the prior system. During the summer and through the first weeks of school, SchoolCafe’s fee was 5 percent of deposits but Humble ISD worked with the vendor to change the fee back to a flat $1.95 per deposit beginning Sept. 8. This is the same fee that was in place last school year. The district received feedback from parents expressing a preference for a flat rate.
"A parent who chooses to send cash or a check in any amount to the school for deposit is not assessed the convenience fee from SchoolCafe," Child Nutrition Director Shirley Parker said. "A fee only applies to on-line payment."
Parents and students may deposit cash or checks into an account at any school during breakfast or lunch. Parents may also choose to schedule a deposit by contacting their school cafeteria manager. Breakfast and lunch times and contact information for cafeteria managers are listed here.
Payments can be made for all students in a family at one campus location, even though some students in the family attend another campus. Checks should be made payable to the name of the school cafeteria where making the deposit. Parents should write each child’s name and ID# in the memo area of the check to ensure proper posting. For cash deposits, include instructions if dividing the deposit between multiple students.
Humble ISD cafeterias serve more than 30,000 meals daily, totaling nearly six million meals throughout the school year. Humble ISD cafeterias are self-funded covering all costs through federal or state funding and meal prices so that district funds are preserved for the classroom.
