Dr. Thomas Price named Lone Finalist for Boerne ISD Superintendent

Humble ISD Deputy Superintendent and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Thomas Price has been named the Lone Finalist for Superintendent of Boerne ISD, a fast-growth school district near San Antonio. The Boerne ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously on May 3 to name Dr. Price the Lone Finalist and must now wait 21 days, as required by Texas law, before officially hiring their new superintendent.

“My dream has always been to live and serve in a school district in the Texas Hill Country,” Dr. Price said. “Boerne ISD has an established reputation for having great students and a supportive community that places students’ needs first – much like Humble ISD – and was compelling for me to pursue.”

Dr. Price joined Humble ISD in 2012 as Deputy Superintendent and Chief Academic Officer. Prior to Humble ISD, his experience included serving as Superintendent in three other districts: Splendora ISD, Sealy ISD and Anderson-Shiro CISD. During his tenure, Splendora ISD was named the Best Small District in Texas in the H-E- B Excellence in Education Awards. After he joined Humble ISD, the district won the Large District Award in 2015.

“I deeply respect and appreciate the support of the Humble ISD Board over the last five years,” Dr. Price said. “The leadership of both Dr. Sconzo and Dr. Fagen has allowed me to grow as a professional. This past year, Dr. Fagen inspired me. Seeing her love of education and focus on children inspired me to want to serve as a Superintendent again. Additionally, I see Boerne as a unique, growing district with a small-town feel where my family can make a home and become immersed in the community.”

The Boerne ISD School Board selected Dr. Price from more than 60 applicants, of whom six candidates were invited to interview. Boerne ISD Superintendent David Stelmazewski is retiring June 30. Dr. Price is expected to join Boerne ISD this summer.

Dr. Price has been an administrative leader in Texas public education for more than twenty years. He was Assistant Superintendent at West Orange-Cove CISD. Earlier in his career, Dr. Price served as executive director for elementary at Port Arthur ISD, principal at Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD and assistant principal at Beaumont ISD. His career in public education began with teaching assignments in Anahuac ISD, Hardin-Jefferson CISD and Beaumont ISD. Dr. Price graduated from the University of Houston and Lamar University. He and his wife Donna have three children.

“I am very excited for Dr. Price and have offered him my sincerest congratulations on his new Superintendent position in Boerne,” Humble ISD Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Fagen said. “He has been incredibly helpful to me. I have thoroughly valued his expertise and partnership in my first year in Humble ISD.”
