KPHS auto collision students earn I-CAR certification
Kingwood Park High School Auto Collision students earn I-CAR certifications and are Platinum-bound.
I-CAR (PDP) is the industry standard for collision repair training, which employers prefer their technicians to have when hiring. For the first time, KPHS auto collision students are following I-CAR’s new Professional Development Program- Education Edition (PDP-EE). This program gives high schools and colleges access to the industry-recognized professional curriculum to meet the needs of school instructors and students. Students will graduate with a Platinum designation which will make them highly employable after graduation.
The program, led by Jeff Wilson, was recently acknowledged by I-CAR for completing the PDP-EE (Professional Development Program) (Education Edition) Intro Series in just four weeks. Four of his students have already earned a Platinum certification. I-CAR PDP-EE allows students to spend more time applying what they are learning in the classroom through hands-on training.
“I am proud of my students for all the work they are doing to earn their I-CAR certification,” Wilson said. “My goal is for the students to gain the experience and training they need so that they can graduate with an internship or job in the field.”
Currently Wilson has 23 students who will reach Platinum certification status before March 2017. Students who are I-CAR certified will continue to earn training throughout their professional careers. Wilson accredits the success of the KPHS I-CAR program to the support from KPHS principal Lisa Drabing and CTE Director Dr. Marley Morris.
Wilson and his students are looking forward to attending the Collision Education Foundation - Houston High School & College Collision / Automotive Career Fair on March 22 at the BASF Houston Competence Center. Students from the Greater Houston area will have the opportunity to meet with perspective employers and watch industry tech demonstrations.
Humble ISD offers I-CAR: Refinishing Technician/Non-Structural Technician to all junior and senior students and is working towards offering the I-CAR: Welding certifications. To learn more information about I-CAR please email, Jeff Wilson at email@example.com.
