In an effort to expose African American and Hispanic young men ages 13-15, to life after high school, Lone Star College at Kingwood has created an intensive week long outreach program. The program is the African American Institute for Males (AAIM) and the Hispanic Institute for Males (HIM) will take place of Monday, June 19 – Thursday, 22, 2017.
Participants of the program will meet on the Lone Star College-Kingwood campus for the week and learning will be focused on the following: key life skills, interviewing skills, and studying their perspective history. Those who attend will also have the opportunity to be mentored. In addition, participants will engage in leadership workshops and hands on activities, all while interacting with Lone Star College-Kingwood faculty and staff who are committed to their success. During this institutes, participants will learn key leadership principles that will prepare them for college.
There is no cost to participate in the program. Please share this information and the attached applications with young men at your school who you know will benefit from this program. Summer Creek had 16 students earn a place in the Region 33 Choirs, which will be performing on November 12 at 5:30 PM at the Dekaney High School Performing Arts Center. Well, Symposium winners Jasmine Reed and Aiyana Bean have started a club that continues the work that the symposium started. Social Outreach Society, also known as SOS, is a club for peer mentoring, and for practicing student led restorative principals. SOS meets on the 1st and 2nd Wednesday of each month.
