The Moon is our nearest neighbor. It is bright and easy to find, and each month we are treated to a series of phases that highlight specific features.

This image is the center of the bright part of a waxing crescent moon. The most significant feature is Mare Criscium. This is the dark oval and is the first mare to appear as the moons reappears after being a new moon.
