    Mission Statement
Our purpose is to partner with teachers, parents and the community to help ensure that reading and writing take place in an active, text-rich, supportive classroom where children are guided to strengthen their comprehension, interpretation and communication in order to better understand themselves, others and use this knowledge to change the world in which they live.

    Belief Statements
    We believe:
    •  In the gradual release model when teaching new/complex skills
    • That formal and informal formative assessments should guide instruction
    • That differentiation in the classroom helps address the literacy needs of all learners
    • That initial guided writing instruction leads to the implementation of writer's workshop
    • We focus on the elements of organization, idea development, and written language conventions within writing instruction
    • In writing weekly, if not daily, as a way to help students process new information or showcase mastery of content and skill
    • Guided reading instruction helps prepare students for success in a reader's workshop environment
    • In specific genre studies that lead to multi-genre integration within reading and writing
    • In the integration of reading and writing
