Frequently Asked Questions
-
Have there been any changes to the transfer process from last year?
Yes. Over the past few years, we have worked to streamline our transfer process because of our continued enrollment growth, staffing limitations and financial restrictions imposed upon us by the legislature. This year, we have continued in that effort by no longer approving applications for campuses that are at 98% of projected enrollment or are at building capacity.
-
How do I initiate a transfer request for my child?
Transfers are initiated by completing the online application found on the Humble ISD Student Transfers web page at www.humbleisd.net/studenttransfers. Once the application is completed, it will be considered for approval or denial by the Assistant Superintendent of School’s Office.
-
When can I apply for a transfer?
Please see the student transfers overview page for current filing periods.
NOTE: Applications should not be submitted before the above-mentioned dates. Applications that are incomplete will not be processed and the requestor will be notified by email. -
Can I apply for a transfer anytime during the year?
No. After the filing deadline, transfer applications will only be accepted for extenuating circumstances which may require medical or legal documentation.
-
What is the process the District uses to determine whether or not my request for a transfer is approved?
Approval is determined based on three factors: Available space – once a campus is at 98% of projected enrollment, transfers to that particular campus will not be considered for a general transfer. Also, at elementary schools, the cap will be a determining factor when a campus is at 98% or 22:1 guideline in a particular grade – a general transfer to that campus will not be considered. Qualifying criteria and extenuating circumstances are also used to approve or deny transfers. Final approval is determined by the Assistant Superintendents of Schools Office.
-
If I live in a flex zone, do I need to submit a transfer request to attend the flex campus?
No, you do not need to complete a transfer application if you reside in a flex zone. If you are unsure if you live in a flex zone, you may review on our attendance zones website.
-
How will I know if my transfer has been granted?
The parent/guardian will receive by email an approval or denial letter.
-
Is bus transportation provided?
No. The District does not provide transportation for a student attending a school outside his or her attendance zone except for Quest Early College High School. Transportation to QECHS is based on designated middle school campus pick-up sites.
-
Do students have to apply for a transfer every year?
Transfer students may remain at the campus until they reach the highest grade level for that campus unless stipulations were designated at time of approval. Please note: The middle school you attend is based on your address – not which elementary you attend. Likewise, the high school you will attend is not based on which middle school you attend but on your address. To attend any school other than your attendance zoned school, a transfer application must be submitted for approval.
An approved transfer into a campus does not guarantee continuation throughout that campus’ feeder pattern.
All Out-of-District Employees must complete a transfer application every year. -
May I return to my home campus if I change my mind in regards to my transfer request?
Students who receive a transfer are expected to remain in the transfer school until the end of that school year at a minimum even though the transfer is in effect until the highest grade level of that school is achieved. If you need to rescind a transfer, you must complete a transfer application with your reason for the rescission. Such a request to return to the home campus may disqualify a student from future consideration for a transfer.
-
My babysitter lives in the District but outside of my attendance zone. May my child transfer to my babysitter’s campus?
No. Child care issues are not extenuating circumstances for general transfers and will not be considered.
-
My child’s daycare does not drop off at my zoned campus. May I transfer my child to a campus that the day care services?
No. Child care issues are not extenuating circumstances for general transfers and will not be considered.
-
If a student requests a transfer to attend a high school outside of his/her high school attendance zone is he/she eligible to participate in UIL sports?
Unless the transfer is granted based on Public Education Grant (PEG) notification, transfer students are not eligible for varsity participation for a full calendar year. There are no eligibility restrictions for sub-varsity.
-
If I have been accepted into the Spanish Immersion program or the Dual Language Program, do I need to complete a transfer application?
No, you do not need to complete a transfer application. Spanish Immersion and Dual Language are programs by choice at designated campuses.
-
May a student transfer be revoked for non-attendance, poor grades, behavior problems, etc.?
Yes. Student transfers may be revoked if the student does not:
* Obey all school rules and regulations as listed in the Humble ISD Student Code of Conduct.

Would I follow the same general transfer guidelines if I am a District employee?
Yes. Employee transfer requests will be accepted during the general transfer filing period except for new employees who may apply when hired. Students are expected to remain on their new campus until the highest grade level of that campus. Any transfer request that is received during the school year will be approved on a case by case basis.

Under what circumstances may a non-resident student receive a transfer?
