The State Board of Education provides that school districts offer students the opportunity to receive credit by examination for certain courses. For more information contact the campus counselor, or call 281-641-8405.

    Credit By Examination for Acceleration
Credit by examination for acceleration is for highly capable students who wish to earn credit for courses for which they have had no prior instruction. High school students may test for individual courses. Elementary and middle school students may use this option to skip an entire grade. In this situation, a student must demonstrate mastery in the foundation curriculum for the grade they wish to skip. For elementary students, this requires four (4) exams; for middle school students eight (8) exams are required. Students must achieve a passing standard of 80 on all tests to demonstrate mastery. The score is recorded on the academic achievement record (AAR), is assigned level grade points and will be included in grade point calculations.

In the spring, parents and students complete an application with the campus counselor to request these exams. Tests are administered over a three-day period either in early June or July. There is no charge to the family for these tests.

    Credit By Examination for Verification
Students who have a nontraditional academic background or who have attended a non-accredited school may verify credit via credit by exam for courses for which they have had prior instruction. Students must earn a passing standard of 70 to earn credit. The score is recorded on the academic achievement record (AAR), is assigned level grade points and will be included in grade point calculations. Grades verifying high school courses taken prior to grade 9 will be recorded as P with no grade points assigned.

Parents and students complete an application with the campus counselor. Tests are usually administered at the campus but can also be administered during a three-day period either in early June or July. There is no charge to the family for the initial tests; however, if an acceptable score is not earned, the family pays for any additional testing.

    Credit by Examination for Retrieval
Students may retrieve credit for courses for which they have had prior instruction. Credit by examination is not an option for students currently enrolled in the class for which they are seeking credit and is not permitted for the purpose of gaining eligibility. Students must earn a passing standard of 70 to earn credit. The score is recorded on the academic achievement record (AAR), is assigned level grade points and will be included in grade point calculations.
