•     Welcome 2018!

                                              Welcome 2018!!

During Reading, our focus will be nonfiction text. Listed below is a tentative schedule of topics/ content that will be covered.

January: Students will learn how to find the main idea and supporting details in expository text.  They will also finding the                         author's purpose.

** It is important that your child is exposed to different typs of nonfiction such as newspaper, magazines, nonfiction books from the library, and articles.

February: Students will learn how to summarize nonfiction text and explore biographies.

** Since students learned how to find the main idea and details of expository text this also helps the students extract the important information and summarize the most important details.

Learning takes place throughout the day in our class during whole group, independent work time, small group instruction, and workstations.  Students can get grades from all of these areas.  It is important that they work diligently throughout all these times.  Students earning any grade less than a 70% will be given a chance to retake during their lunch, recess, or specials time.

During Writing, we will continue learning about writing expository essays.  Students have been learning how to analyze writing prompts, so they can stay on topic.  The month of January we will learn strategies to revise and edit essays.  We will also learn organizational patterns in essays.

** It is important that your child write as much as possible.  They can and will recieve grades in writing from grammar, spelling, writing content, conventions, organization, prompt analyzing, and revising and editing.

Our students will be learning about Exploration and Revolution of Texas in Social Studies.
