    Welcome, students!

My name is Jamie Lynne Hammonds (formerly Beavers), and I'm honored and ecstatic to be your teacher for the 2018-2019 school year!

    Strategic Writing: Period 1

This course is designed to enhance students' writing skills in preparation for standardized testing and college readiness. Classes are small in size, so students may work closely with both their peers and their teacher in a writer's workshop setting. Compositions include personal narratives, short stories, expository, analytical, and persuasive; in addition, students will have a chance to develop their creative ideas through journaling, quick-writes, collaborative stories, and other engaging activities.

To my students: I want you to know that I know you can write, and this course will provide you with the one-on-one instruction and the time to practice that you need in order to show what you can really do. I'm honored and ecstatic to be your teacher this year, and I look forward to working with each of you.

    Business English: Periods 2, 4-7

This course is designed to enhance senior students' reading and writing skills in preparation for career & college readiness. Our focus will be on practical writing (such as resumes, cover letters, professional communication, and college-application essays) and on readings tailored as much as possible to students’ chosen career paths and real-world experiences.

To my students: I understand the frustration often expressed by recent high school graduates that very little of what was taught in school has prepared them for the challenges of the career & adult world; this course is specifically designed to provide you with the practical skills you will encounter beyond school. I'm honored and ecstatic to be your teacher this year, and I look forward to working with each of you.
