Reading Strategies is a course that reinforces the strategies that good readers use before, during, and after reading. Additionally, lessons focus on developing the background knowledge, vocabulary, and thinking skills needed to construct meaning from written text. Reasoning and analysis strategies are taught in content-rich contexts, enabling students to transfer these strategies to many subject areas. This course will cover the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and SKills) order to promote student achievement. Students will read a wide variety of books from many different genres. The reading of informational texts and non-fiction will be an important component of this course.
