    Covid-19 Closure: Communication Plan

Although circumstances prevent us from holding classes, I will be posting learning opportunities in the coming weeks via Google Classroom and NoRedInk. All students need to join my Google Classroom with the join code below. Students should already be enrolled in NoRedInk, but the join codes are below. I also will post a weekly calendar of activities and supplemental resources on this web page directly below. I will still be available via email and Remind, so don't hesitate to reach out with questions. If you are not connected on Remind, parents can sign up HERE and students can sign up HERE. In addition, I will offer face-to-face tutoring via Zoom. Students only (please) create an account HERE by clicking the blue "Sign Up, It's Free" button at the top, right of the webpage. I would love to SEE you all via Zoom! More information below.

The pandemic has presented the country with an extraordinary challenge. Right now we have more questions than answers. Education will need to be flexible, which invites new avenues of growth. I'm exploring new teaching tools to make your learning experience as enriching as possible. In the meantime, stay safe and well!

    1.     Live Zoom session on Monday at 1 p.m. to go over the assignment. This session will be recorded and posted to Google Classroom. You can attend the session to talk to me directly or watch the recording later.

    2.     Watch/Record 20 minutes from two news sources.

    3.     Create a Works Cited page with your two sources. Use the “Broadcast TV or Radio Program” source type on Purdue OWL. Link to Purdue OWL:

    https://tinyurl.com/y7sg6y7a

    4.     Ask questions about the paper on Google Classroom (there is a question posted).

Open the Media Bias Notes Doc from Google Classroom. The Doc is formatted for you. As you are watching your TV segments, take notes about the visuals and language that spins information certain ways. For instance, does one station play an unflattering clip from Trump’s news conference or does another station gloss over mistakes the administration has made? Take note of the visuals each source uses.

Submit your typed notes and works cited in Google Classroom. Do NOT share them (with me or anyone else). Submit your works cited as a separate page on the end of the same document. It’s formatted for you!

Start a diary about this Covid 19 craziness. Document how this is affecting your life personally. What have you observed about human behavior? Are there any really beautiful outcomes that might arise from this horrible situation?
