The 2020 Online Learning Plan
for Kingwood High School
KHS Families, (this email was sent on 3/26/2020)
Beginning March 30, KHS will be launching a campus-wide structure for Distance Learning while the campus remains closed. You may view our online learning plan on the campus website, or it is attached to this email for your convenience.
On Mondays, you can expect each teacher to share a Weekly Learning Plan for their class by 9:00 am. This learning plan will detail the learning path for the upcoming week and will include a Learning Target, Learning Opportunities/Activities, and a Learning Outcome. The offerings and activities will be flexible, allowing students to engage in self-paced learning throughout the week. Learning Outcomes should be submitted by the following Monday for all classes. We encourage students and families to use Mondays to view learning plans for each of their courses, begin working on activities, and set a plan for the week ahead.
To support student learning, teachers will offer virtual "office hours" for students on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays through digital meeting platforms such as Zoom. To minimize potential conflicts, these office hours are scheduled by content area and on a 'block' schedule at 8:00, 10:00, 12:00, and 2:00. To allow for maximum flexibility, office hour sessions will be offered more than once during the week and at different times throughout the day.
Office hours are intended for student support, not the introduction of new content. While attendance is not required, students are encouraged to attend at least one session per week for each course they take in order to check in with their teachers, connect with classmates, and get answers to any questions they may have.
On Fridays, teachers may schedule virtual tutoring sessions as needed in order to support their students. These times will be communicated by individual teachers.
Teachers will be in contact to communicate details about their course, including which specific sessions they will offer and instructions/links for accessing their office hours. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your student's teachers, counselor, or assistant principal if you have questions.
We thank you for your continued support of KHS. We miss seeing our Mustangs every day but are eager to support them in our new digital learning environment!
