Getting to Know Mrs. Black

  • Welcome to my webpage!

This will be my 12th year teaching English Language Arts, and I'm sure it will be the best year yet!

My philosophy of teaching is drawn from my own love of reading, of writing, and of the power of language and the beauty of the classics.  I believe every child has a gift, and that gift can be explored, expanded and engaged through the development of language arts.

What’s more, I believe a child’s success in other subject areas can be enhanced when reading and writing skills are brought to their fullest potential.  I believe in a child’s right to imagination, laughter, and questions; I encourage students to use all three in my class as well as in their work. To quote Alfred Mercier, "That which is learned in pleasure is never forgotten."

I am a 2008 B.S. English Education graduate of Florida State University, and I’m currently working on my M.S. in Library Science at Texas Woman’s University.

I am originally from South Florida, but have recently relocated to Atascocita with my husband, 2 year old daughter, and two dogs.
