Dear parents and students of Math Strategies,I hope all of you are well! Due to the school closure, I will be sharing some educational opportunities for your child to complete while at home. It is critical for our strategies students to continue learning while home from school during this time. Each week please have your child log into Aleks.com There you will see I have uploaded an assignment for them to work on. I will also be sharing some math video links, practice websites, and games to help your child work from home. You do not need to do anything to help them with these assignments, other than ensure that they are logged in and completing them. I also ask that you have your child complete the questions using scrap paper to write out their calculations. (Only students who are accommodated for calculators during any state testing, should be using calculators). Students will need to use the math reference charts to solve the conversion and geometry problems. I have also attached a copy of graph paper, as we are starting to use the boxes to line up digits in place value when calculating.Your child has been logging on to the Aleks web site, all year long in class, and should know their log in and password. If for some reason they forget, and need a reminder, please email or call and I can provide it for you. Please look for future emails regarding additional assignments, and resources. Thanks!
My name is Dena Tatem. I am new to TMS this year, but come with 16 years experience. This year I will be teaching 6th and 7th grade Math Strategies. I previously taught 6th grade math in Aldine ISD for 3 years. I have a bachelors in communications from Howard University, and a masters in education from Mercy College. I am originally from Albany, NY and have also taught in the Bronx and Atlanta, Ga. I have 2 sons who are both very involved in competitive sports, so they keep me very busy. Outside of teaching I enjoy traveling, gardening, and doing DIY projects.
I am excited to become a member of the TMS family, and look forward to a great year!
