Welcome Humble Wildcats!
Hello, I am Megan Thomas, and I am excited about the opportunity to serve you this school year. Some of the things that I do in my free time include spending time with my son and family and friends, watching movies, and visiting New Orleans. I am a Houston native and graduated from North Shore Senior High School. I attended Dillard University, but graduated from the University of Houston-Downtown with a degree in General Studies. I went on to earn my Masters in Educational Administration from Lamar University. I am certified in high school math grades 8th- 12th. This is my first year at Humble High School, but I have eight years of educational experience with five of those years as a math teacher. I have taught Algebra I, Strategic Math and Algebraic Reasoning.
Why I wanted to become an educator...
I started in education as a substitute teacher. I wanted to become an educator because I know how important it is for students to have someone to care about them, push them, believe in them, motivate and encourage them, and connect with. I did not have this role model during my years in school. I believe every child can learn and I look forward to meeting my students where they are and helping them get to where they want to be. I enjoy knowing that I can make a difference in students’ lives and help them reach their goals. I believe children are our next generation. They are our future doctors, lawyers, teachers, nurses and engineers. My goal is to provide my students with as much knowledge as I can. I want to help them succeed, regardless of their initial ability or interest in this class. I look forward to partnering with you as we build the foundation for a success future.
This year students will be learning new skills that will further their knowledge of math, such as interactive note-taking, study groups, and projects. They are expected to come to class prepared and be ready to learn. It is vital that they get all the practice that they need to better their skills; therefore students will need to practice at home daily. I am a strong believer in "it takes a village to raise a child". I will support, encourage, and better student skills and help grow them to the next stage of life.
