General Information...
Hello, I am Mr./Dr./Coach Banks and I'm excited about the opportunity to serve you this school year. Some of the things that I do in my free time include fishing, bowling, and photography. Above all that, I love spending time with my daughter Nayah who runs my life. I am a graduate of the University of Houston with a degree in Sociology and I was also a student-athlete on the Cougar Football Team. I went on to do my graduate and post-graduate work in Educational Leadership at Grand Canyon University.
Why I wanted to become an educator...
I do what I do because someone took time for me in my life to help me get to where I am. I believe every child can learn and I look forward to meeting you where you are and helping you get to where it is you want to be. My goal is to provide my students with as much knowledge as I can. I want to help them succeed, regardless of their initial ability or interest in this class. I'm looking forward to building with you because I believe its more beneficial to build in the life of a child than it is to repair in the lives of an adult. I look forward to partnering with you as we build together.
Course information...
This course is called MAPS which stands for Methodology of Academic and Personal Success. In this class, we will spend a lot of time working on study skills and interpersonal skills all in an effort to help you be successful as you matriculate throughout high school and beyond. Curriculum areas we will focus on this year will be from AVID's WICOR Strategies:
Technology within the classroom...
Students have several different learning preferences and I want to honor that. I tend to not follow the one size fits approach to technology usage; however, I will be in compliance with the grade level, school and district expectations as it relates to technology usage, especially cellphone usage. If a student prefers to take notes on a laptop or iPad please let me know prior to so that we will be in compliance.
