    Introduction

At the age of six, I wrote in my memory book that I wanted to be a teacher. Even though friends and a few family members encouraged me to pursue a job that made more money, I listened to my heart (and my dad).  After graduating from Baylor University in 1996 with a B.A. in English and receiving my master's degree in American Studies from the same campus in 1998, I began my first "real job" as a seventh grade English language arts teacher at Tennyson Middle School in Waco, Texas. Since then, I have served in Texas public schools for more than twenty years as a teacher, a team leader, an instructional coach, and a content specialist. In May 2016, I earned a doctoral degree in curriculum and instruction from Texas A&M University in College Station. Two years later, I returned to Summer Creek High School as a dual credit English instructor and now serve as the instructional coach for the Reading and English Language Arts (RELA) Department.
