Intro to Culinary
& Principles of Hospitality
Intro to Culinary:
Intro to Culinary is the first of 4 classes offered in the Humble ISD Culinary Program. The program is lead by Chef Jenkins who is housed at Summer Creek High School. Upon completion of the culinary program students will have obtained many certifications and trainings to be industry ready right out of high school. This intro class will focus on back-of-the-house service. These skills include, but are not limited to: Chef, kitchen management, food prep, line management, ServSafe Certification, etc. Introduction to Culinary Arts will emphasize the principles of planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling the management of a variety of food service operations. The course will provide insight into the operation of a well-run restaurant. Introduction to Culinary Arts will provide the knowledge into food production skills, various levels of industry management, and hospitality skills. This is an entry level course for students interested in pursuing a career in the food service industry. This course is offered as a classroom and laboratory-based course. There is a lab fee for this course. There is also a prerequisite course for this class called Principles of Hospitality & Tourism. Both courses earn high school credit. This class, however, is NOT Foods for Today - labs involving cooking are based off of the curriculum and material we are learning. We do not cook every day.
Culinary Team: This is only offered to students who are currently enrolled in the Intro to Culinary class. This team is formed based off of performance, behavior, and reliability. It is completely at the teacher's discretion, and it changes or varies for each task. Our Culinary team is in charge of our catering events, teacher appreciation luncheons and gifts, as well as our culinary competitions.
