School Library Advisory Council

Under recent legislation and Board Policy, the Humble ISD Board of Trustees has voted to establish a School Library Advisory Council (SLAC) to help ensure that local community values are reflected in each school library’s catalog.

The SLAC will provide recommendations related to adding new library materials, reviewing materials following a formal challenge, updating policies or guidelines related to library collections, and other duties related to school libraries.

The council will include 14 members who are parents of currently enrolled students or community members. People serving on the SLAC cannot be employed by the district. The group will meet at least twice per year, with additional meetings scheduled as needed to meet timelines for challenges or purchasing cycles. Serving on the SLAC is a volunteer, unpaid position.

If you are interested in being considered for appointment to the council, please complete the SLAC Interest Form by November 10, 2025. The form is found on www.humbleisd.net by choosing “Board of Trustees” and then “SLAC Interest Form.”

For questions about the council or the time commitment involved, please contact Dr. Melissa Leigh, Senior Director of Personalized Student Success, at Melissa.Leigh@humbleisd.net.
