• Ashley Shirey

Welcome! My name is Ashley Shirey. I am a kindergarten teacher at Summerwood Elementary. I am a product of Humble ISD, and graduated from The Atascocita High School in 2013. I began my teaching career while in high school working at a local preschool. I then went to Texas Tech University where I majored in Elementary Education EC-6 with a specialization in Math/Science. I did half a semester of student teaching in both kindergarten and 3rd grade, and a full year of student teaching in first grade. This will be my fifth year of teaching all at SWE. This will be my fourth year teaching kindergarten. Last year I taught 3rd grade science and social studies. I am also the SWE 2020/2021 Teacher of the Year.

Besides teaching, I love sports and traveling. I have played almost every sport, soccer and football being my favorites. I am a huge US Womens National Team and Houston Dash fan when it comes to soccer. When it comes to college football I root for Penn State, my all time favorite team, and the Super Bowl 52 NFL Champions the Philadelphia Eagles when it comes to the NFL. As you can tell by my football teams I am not originally from Texas. I was born in Pennsylvania where I went to school till 4th grade. Then my family moved to Indiana where I finished Elementary and Middle School. Finally landing in Texas! Growing up my family and I have traveled a lot. I have been to almost all 50 states, and have been to Canada, Jamaica, Bahamas, England, and Africa.

I am very excited to teach kindergarten and I look forward to getting to know all of you this year!
