• Who is Mrs. Porter-Roy?

Welcome to a great year at Willow Creek Elementary! I look forward to having your child in class. This is my 12th year in education and my 5th year at Willow Creek Elementary.

I am not a Texas native. I've lived all over the country because my dad was in the military (Air Force) for 20 years! I was born in New Mexico and spent 3 years there, then moved to a different country, Holland. I spent kindergarten, first grade, and second grade on a military base. Then we moved to Destin, Florida. I lived there for the second pard of my second grade year through my sophomore year in high school. After Florida, we moved to Ohio. I spent my last 2 years of high school and 4 glorious years of college in Ohio.  Upon graduation from Bowling Green State University, (go Falcons!) I moved to the great state of Texas to start my career and I never looked back!

In December 2016, I married my husband, David. He was born and raised in Kingwood, Texas! A proud alumni of  Bear Branch Elementary, Creekwood Middle School, and Kingwood High School, class of 2006. We live in New Caney, Texas with our 2 crazy dogs, Keystone and Cinnamon. Keystone is a PORKIE (half Pug/half Yorkie) and Cinnamon is a WEEGLE (half weenie dog/half beagle rescue). We have no children together yet, but I do have a wonderful stepson, Tanner, who is a 7th grader at Creekwood Middle School. When the dogs aren't driving us crazy we love to swim, hunt, work on house projects, and travel! We are huge sports fans too. We love to watch football and baseball (GO OHIO STATE BUCKS and ASTROS!!!!)

Another big part of our family is my sister, Julia and my niece Adalyn (Addy). They both moved here from Ohio amd now live in the Kingwood area! Addy is a 5th grader here at Willow Creek and has an active hand in helping my sweet students! They just adore her. She wants to be a teacher when she grows up. She loves singing, dancing and the stage. Plus all things tie-dyed and daisy!

Teaching isn't just a job for me, it's a passion! As the oldest of four siblings, I never really stood a chance. I feel like Ive been taking care of kids my whole life! I believe in academics, but I also believe in social and emotional intelligences. I love the WHOLE child. Their interests, extra-curricular activities, and heart mean as much to me as thir reading level and math capabilities. First grade is a big year! We learn a lot about becoming a student and seeing themselves as a learner. As well as roll through multiple reading levels and get a foundation of math number sense. I look forward to spending the year with you and your child! If there is ever a problem, please communicate, so we can solve it the best way we can.
