Hi, I’m Janet Newton. This will be my eighth year teaching 4th grade at Summerwood Elementary. I will be a self contained teacher this year teaching reading, language arts, math, science, and social studies. I am excited to share my passion for reading with my students. If your child doesn’t like to read, I’ll do my best to help them find books that will spark their interest. If your child is an avid reader, I am eager to get book recommendations from them. This year fourth graders will grow their writing skills and see the effect their writing can have on others. I encourage students to look at things with a mathematical perspective. Throughout the year we will look for patterns and make connections with numbers. Last year my students loved to amuse me and point out dates that had a pattern or a number sentence. I will inspire students to become problem solvers and begin or continue a quest to be a life-long learner. We will have a classroom where students feel safe and know that it is ok to make mistakes. We will strive to learn from mistakes and support each other with a positive attitude.
I have lived in the Houston area my entire life and have lived in Summerwood for eleven years with my husband, two daughters, one dog and one cat. In my spare time I enjoy cooking, reading, and testing out a science experiments. I also keep busy by visiting our youngest daughter who is a sophomore at Texas A&M and counting the days until our oldest daughter returns from an internship at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
