    Construction

In April 1976, Mr. Nix (of the architectural firm of Nix, Spencer, Herolz, Durham, Inc.) made a presentation to the school board of the Preliminary Site Plans, duplicating the Woodland Hills Elementary campus design.

The board approved the purchase of the site in Bear Branch at a price of $67,895 ($6,615 per acre) from the Kingwood Development Company, in May 1976. The size of the school is 67,027 square feet.  The total site acreage is 10.16 acres.

The contract for the clearing of the Bear Branch site was awarded to John West for $5,000 in June 1976.

In September 1976, awarded the contract for the shape, compact and stabilization of the earthfill to Fairmont Paving & Utilities for $17,800.  The district also initiated an agreement with the Housotn Lighting and Power Company for services to the new elementary.

Through 1977, construction on the campus was behind, mostly due to bad weather.

In June 1977, the contract to install carpeting was awarded to Carpet Services.

The building was accepted as substantially complete on February 28, 1978.
