Nicholas Luggerio, Director of Bands
Nicholas Luggerio is currently the Director of Bands at Atascocita High School in Humble ISD. He has previously worked as Assistant Director and Director of Fine Arts at Pasadena ISD and Bryan ISD, respectively. As a Fine Arts administrator, Luggerio worked to coordinate all Art, Band, Choir, Dance, Elementary Music, Orchestra and Theater activities in those respective school districts. Before becoming an administrator, he was the Director of Bands and Director of Fine Arts in Huntsville ISD for 10 years.
Luggerio is a graduate of Kingwood High School where he was a student of Linda Tiner. His journey to becoming a Band Director took a very different path. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science with a Minor in Management from Texas A&M University where he was one of the Drum Majors of the Nationally Famous Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band. He then attended and graduated from South Texas College of Law in downtown Houston with his Doctor of Jurisprudence. He left the practice of law to attend Stephen F. Austin State University, earning his Bachelor of Music where he studied with Fred J. Allen and Brian Britt. While attending SFA, Luggerio was a Teaching Assistant to the Lumberjack Marching Band. Luggerio earned a Masters of Music-Conducting from Sam Houston State University where he studied with Matthew McInturf.
Luggerio began his public school band career as the Assistant Director at Pine Tree ISD in Longview, Texas, and then became Director of Bands at Crosby ISD in Crosby, Texas, before going to Huntsville. Under Luggerio’s leadership, the Huntsville High School Band earned consecutive First Division Awards in Marching, Concert and Sight Reading performances, resulting in consecutive UIL Sweepstakes awards. Additionally, Huntsville Band students earned numerous All-Region, Area and State Band placements and Solo & Ensemble medals each year. During Luggerio’s tenure, the Huntsville Band Program doubled the number of students involved and tripled the number of performing groups. Luggerio’s bands have traveled and performed in Winter Park, Colorado, at the World War II and Lincoln Memorials in Washington D.C., at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, and aboard a Caribbean cruise.
Luggerio composes, arranges and edits many musical pieces that have been performed throughout the state. He has taught leadership camps to band students throughout the state as well. He holds memberships in the Texas Bandmasters Association, Texas Music Adjudicators Association, Texas Music Educators Association and the Texas Bar Association.
