Meeting regarding elementary attendance zones scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26 at AHS
Humble ISD invites parents and the public to a meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, regarding elementary attendance zone changes affecting families currently zoned to Atascocita Springs and Eagle Springs elementary schools. The meeting will be held at the Atascocita High School Performing Arts Center, 13300 Will Clayton Parkway.
Humble ISD is among the 10 fastest growing school districts in Texas and planning for new schools. The School Attendance Area Committee set to work months ago to address overcrowding at Atascocita Springs and Eagle Springs elementary schools, which both utilize portable buildings to accommodate current classes. The intent of the committee was to alleviate current and future overcrowding, reduce the use of portable classrooms, and establish an attendance area for a new elementary school that is being built in The Groves and will open in August 2017.
Humble ISD held Community Input Meetings and collected comments online about the proposed elementary attendance zone. Attendance zone changes were scheduled to be presented to the School Board in December but the district slowed down its boundary approval process in order to thoroughly factor in all suggestions submitted through the input process.
The Jan. 26 meeting has been scheduled to provide follow-up information. At the meeting, information related to elementary attendance zoning will be presented. Additionally, questions will be addressed regarding middle and high school attendance areas for families currently zoned to Atascocita Springs and Eagle Springs elementary schools.
The district intends to establish elementary boundaries at its Feb. 14 School Board meeting so that the principal of the new school, Dr. Brian Peters, can begin working with students and parents in selecting the new school’s colors and mascot, establishing a PTA or PTO, scheduling orientations, and more.
