Christine Marku holds both Bachelors and Master of Music degrees in the area of vocal performance and TEA Certification in Music K-12 and Theatre Arts K-12. Though she is new to Riverwood this year, she comes with over 13 years of teaching experience from around Texas, Florida and ITALY! She is currently teaching all levels of choir and beginning theatre arts. Her students are offered the opportunity to prepare and perform for audiences of peers, family, friends, etc. as a catalyst for critical thinking and an outlet for self-expression and creativity. By performing regulary, students can gain more confidence and self-asuredness which will benefit their whole educational experience.
In addition to teaching performing arts, Christine is passionate about being on stage and has performed not only in a variety of different concerts, operas, musicals but also acted in plays throughout the Southeast reagion and overseas in Italy, France, and Austria. She is a classically trained soprano, having sung semi-professionally in Italy in such operatic roles as "Cio Cio San" in MADAMA BUTTERFLY, "La Contessa" in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO" and "Anina" in LA TRAVIATA. Stateside, she has performed in various operettas and musicals such as Gilbert and Sullivan's beloved PIRATES of PENZANCE, THE MUSIC MAN with TexArts in Austin, and SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS with Zilker Hillside Theatre.
