A Little About Ms. Barker
I was born and raised in a small, southeast Texas town called Groves, Texas. I received my bachelor's degree from Baylor University and took courses at Texas Tech toward my Masters in Special Education and Teacher for Visually Impaired certification. I am beginning my 13th year of teaching in Humble ISD. I have taught 2nd - 5th grades and started teaching Steps Plus Pre-K four years ago.
I have 3 children in their early to mid-20's and they all live on their own (at the moment!). Since they all attended Deerwood Elementary, I was so excited when I learned that I would be able to be a part of the Deerwood family!
Teaching 3, 4 and 5 year old children has been my most rewarding teaching experience ever! I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with amazing teachers in a nurturing environment where students can explore, play, and experience new challenges while building self-confidence.
When I am not lesson planning, or playing and learning with my classroom kiddos, I enjoy adventurous travel with my "outdoorsy" son, taking cross country road trips with my mom (who just turned 90!), meeting up with friends and family, or walking my 2 dogs on the greenbelt.
Every year, I look forward with excitement to the new experiences that the school year will bring. Let's get ready for a fantastic journey!
