    DWE Storybook Character Parade

The Deerwood Elementary Storybook Character Parade is back! This favored event will take place on Friday, October 29, 2021, starting at 8:30. For this event, students can dress up as their favorite story book character as they parade around the school. Families are invited and encouraged to watch, take pictures, and cheer from the front of the school. The front drive will be blocked off from traffic after morning arrival.

Students may choose any character from an appropriate, elementary school book that they love reading. The costumes should not be scary. Costumes may not have a mask, weapon, or contain blood. Costumes must meet school dress code guidelines.

You do NOT have to buy anything new for this event. Instead, be creative – make paper ears, a hat, or wear the clothes the character would wear. Students should come to school dressed as the storybook character and should be able to go to the restroom independently while in character.

Students should either carry the book or make a large name tag stating the title of the book

and the character they are portraying. Students who do not wish to wear a costume may make signs or props to carry during the parade representing a favorite book character.

Thank you for joining us as we continue this tradition with our Deerwood students! We can’t wait to see all of your storybook characters parade around the track!

Thank you for your cooperation during our Severe Weather Dismissals this week. We are looking forward to sunnier days next week!

We understand that there is a lot of school traffic at arrival and dismissal. While we are always looking at ways to make the lines go faster, student safety remains our priority. Thank you for following the designated traffic pattern at arrive and dismissal.  Please be sure to allow parents who live off of Spring Cove and Highland Laurels to merge into the front car rider line at their Forest Garden intersection. We also thank you for kindly not blocking residents’ driveways by the school.

Our Deerwood car riders have shown great responsibility this week by having their backpacks, lunchboxes and water bottles ready and exiting their cars quickly and safely each morning. This is a great POG example, Dolphins!
