Everybody Counts

Everybody Counts is a national disability awareness program developed by Nancy Kayes in 1981. It is designed to teach children about various disabilities and how children with these challenges cope with them. The goal is to build understanding, inclusion and ease with one another’s differences.

Everybody Counts provides a fully-developed curriculum for grades K-8th including lesson plans, materials lists and suggested activities. Volunteers will help deliver this program to Deerwood students during PE or other specials class.

Over the course of their time at Deerwood, students will gain a basic understanding of visual impairments, hearing impairments, cognitive delays, motor / orthopedic impairments and learning disabilities. It is our hope this program will teach Deerwood students the worth of all people and that disabilities are not a barrier to friendship.
