Creating For Care
Creating For Care is a service learning club for 4th and 5th graders at DWE, created by Robin Robinson, in honor of the memory of her 3 year old son, who spread joy and laughter even in sickness.
Our purpose: To use the Arts, Literature, and writing, to enhance exposure to language arts and fine arts to encourage creative thinking skills, while developing
compassion, understanding, and outreach to others like us who are unable to attend school due to serious illness.
We do many activities through out the year, but our main project is partnering with Periwinkle Foundation who serves families with childhood cancer. We read a book, write our own stage play, and perform the play in April as our large fundraiser. We do many other things beyond that such as cleaning up our community, doing toy drives, providing blankets to the homeless, and more. We are a hands on group that is partnering our learning with action to better the world around us and hopefully make people smile no matter their circumstances!
Students apply in May for the club and must go through an interview process. It is a high-level commitment group that meets once a week every week. We are in our second year and if it goes as it did last year, you won't want to miss the amazing performance. Last year we raised close to $3,000 for our project! We hope to exceed that this year!
