I am thrilled to be a part of the Lakeshore Leopard campus!
Originally, I am from Bakersfield, California. I moved to Texas in February of 2013.
I am a graduate of Centennial High School, Bakersfield College, and California State University, Fresno. I graduated with my California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in 2004. I have a Supplemental Authorization in Social Studies. I am CLAD certified (English Language Learners), CPI Certified, and have completed CTAP 1 and 2 trainings. I also completed Extended Education Studies with California State University, Bakersfield, Point Loma Nazarene University, and San Diego State University.
I was a substitute teacher for the Clovis Unified School District and Fresno Unified School District in California beginning in 2001 and ending in May of 2004. I subbed in grades K-12.
In June of 2004, I was hired to teach Kindergarten for the Norris School District at the Olive Drive Elementary School Campus. I taught 2 years before becoming their kindergarten grade level leader.
In 2007, Veterans Elementary School opened and I transferred to that campus to assist with the opening of the new school. I taught one additional year of Kindergarten before transferring to 4th grade. I taught 4.5 years in 4th grade before my husband, Matthew Grimes was transferred with his company to Houston, TX. It was with a heavy heart that I packed up my 4th grade classroom and 1st home to move to the Lone Star State.
I was eager to get back to teaching and I was thrilled to be given the position of Reading and Language Arts in the 5th grade. As I'm certain you can ascertain by merely peeking into my classroom, I LOVE books. I enjoy being able to encourage students to read, comprehend, and build a life-long adoration of written stories.
This year, I have again been offered the opportunity to teach all subjects again and I couldn't be more excited! I feel as though subject matter is better taught blended - not in isolation.
In 2017, I was chosen as Lakeshore Elementary's Teacher of the Year. I went on to become one of Humble ISD's top 5 elementary Teacher's of the Year.
Other than my life within the classroom walls, I am a wife of 19 years. I have two beautiful children. Carter Stone is 13 years old and attends 7th grade at West Lake Middle School. Heidi Reese completed our family of 4 in November of 2012. She is entering 4th grade this year at LSE!
I have two dogs. One named Sage. The other is named Oreo. We also have a cat named Bug. All of our pets are "rescue adoption" animals.
Confessions:
I enjoy photography, blogging, painting, reading, sending and receiving 'real' mail, and going on walks with my kiddos and hubby. I have a LARGE weakness to chocolate and caffeine, though I don't drink coffee! I could eat bean and cheese burritos for every meal of every day and probably still enjoy them. I have read "Forks in the Dishwasher" at least 20 times. I want to own my own segway. I write in books that I own. I will happily paint my toenails and fingernails daily. I buy greeting cards in bulk. I adore my label maker and I become giddy at the sight of back to school sales on school supplies. I believe I could successfully become a professional organizer and I have a secret obsession with the show, Hoarders. I love the thunder and lightning of the south. I knew I wanted to become a teacher when a doctor told me that I would never have children (I showed her!) -- so that I could "have" other people's kids as part of my family.
My students truly become an extension of my family. Thank you to all the parents who have loaned me their kids. I love them all.
