Hi - I'm Mrs Harper!
I'm very excited to be a First Grade teacher at Eagle Springs Elementary! ESE is a wonderful campus and I love teaching here. I'm equally excited about being a part of your child's journey into education and discovery!
Let me tell you a little about myself - I obtained my Bachelor's Degree from Lamar University in Beaumont (GO CARDS!). My first teaching position was with Devers ISD. I taught 3rd-5th grade Language Arts for two years and then 1st grade for the next 12. If you don't know where Devers is, get on Highway 90 and drive towards Beaumont for about 45 minutes...but don't blink or you'll miss it! In 1998, my daughter Mackenzie was born and my husband and I decided it would be best for our family if I stayed home. So after 14 years of teaching, I became a stay-at-home Mom.
When Mackenzie was in Kindergarten, I was her room Mom and volunteered at the school regularly. The following year I took a long term substitute position for a Kindergarten teacher. In 2004, there was a 1st grade position open on that campus and I took it. I taught 1st grade for 2 years at Timbers Elementary School and then had the opportunity to move to ESE in a Kindergarten position. This will be my 15th year with Humble ISD and I'm so excited to be teaching first grade. So in all, this will be my 29th year teaching - my how time flies!
I've been married to my husband Scott for 33 years. After we were married, we lived in Beaumont for 8 years before moving to Atascocita in 1994. He went to work for Houston Lighting & Power and we chose this area to live so I could still work in Devers. He is now Director of Learning & Organizational Development for CenterPoint Energy and manages the company's corporate university - so we're both in the education business!
My daughter Mackenzie is 21 years old and is a graduate of Summer Creek High School. She was the mascot (SPIKE) all 4 years at SCHS and was also involved in journalism and theater. She will be transferring from Lone Star College-Kingwood to Lamar University in the spring.
Our family enjoys being together as much as possible, traveling, going on mission trips, watching movies or just hanging out at our home in Eagle Springs with our cats, April and Graycie. We are all involved at our church, Northeast Houston Baptist Church. My husband Scott is a Life Group Leader. He is also an NEHBC trustee. I have worked in children's ministry for several years, but am currently a member of the hospitality team. Mackenzie sings on the praise team and works with children's choir.
I'm looking forward to our partnership in your child's education. It's so rewarding to watch your children learn and grow throughout the year! If you ever have questions, please feel free to contact me. Let's have a great year!
