Register for an Information Session: “How to Become a Teacher in Humble ISD”

Humble ISD will hold an information session, “How to Become a Teacher in Humble ISD,” on Thursday, August 25, for individuals interested in pursuing a career in teaching.

Participants must meet qualifications and register in advance to attend. The program will be offered from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, August 25, at Autumn Creek Elementary School, 14910 Woodland Dawn Trail. RSVP required to attend the Apprentice Teacher Event.

Participants will learn about the application process for Teacher Apprentice positions, which are available in a limited number this school year and pay $55,000 per school year.

To be eligible for hire as an Apprentice Teacher, one must have already earned a bachelor’s degree or higher, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and pass a criminal background check. In addition, Teacher Apprentices must enroll this semester in an Alternative Teacher Certification program and must complete the certification program within two years.

Once certified, Teacher Apprentices will earn an entry level teacher salary at a minimum of $62,100. Humble ISD’s entry level teacher salary is the third highest projected in the State of Texas.

Individuals meeting the qualifications for Teacher Apprentice may apply online at www.humbleisd.net/apply for open teacher positions.  Special Education and Bilingual positions are not a part of the Apprentice Teacher program due to state requirements specific to these teaching areas.

Once applied, principals will choose applicants to interview and make hiring recommendations based upon the standard, competitive hiring process. Teacher Apprentices will be held to the same performance standards as other Humble ISD teachers. All first year and apprentice teachers are assigned a mentor.

“Our students’ parents, and professionals in other industries, tell us they are interested in becoming a teacher,” Rick Gardner, Associate Superintendent for Human Resources, said. “However, they may not know how to begin their teaching career. The Apprentice Teacher program provides them that pathway to become a teacher in Humble ISD.”

The program is new for the 2022-2023 school year. In prior years, Humble ISD hired individuals who were enrolled in Alternative Certification Programs but now the district is promoting opportunities to become enrolled in an Alternative Certification Program and be hired as soon as September.

With 46 campuses, Humble ISD has about 100 unfilled teaching positions. There are about 3,700 teachers and librarians currently employed and 97 percent of positions are filled.

Those who meet qualifications are encouraged to register and attend the information program to learn application details. Come join the #1 ranked best place to teach in the Houston area by Niche.
