¡Hola Familias de Groves Elementary!
I am extremely excited to be joining the Grizzly Family. Although I was born and raised in Miami FL, my family is from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I grew up in a spanish speaking home and learned english in school during a time when the ESL program didn’t exist. I learned through daily english exposure and speaking practice with my peers. Learning a new language doesn’t have to be intimidating. I believe that you just need the right opportunities and safe space to play with it. When I was in 4th grade my family moved back to Buenos Aires which is where I completed 4th and 5th grade. Learning how to read and write in Spanish has definitely opened doors for me growing up and has grown my confidence when it comes to spanish in the professional world.
A little about my family, my husband’s name is Gerardo Dobao. Like typical hispanic first born sons he is named after his father. Although his immediate family is from Cuba, which migrated to the US in the early 60's, his Great Grandfather migrated from Spain to Cuba eventually passing down the Dobao name to my children. We have 2 kids, Sammy and Nico. Sammy is my artsy 11 year old and Nico is my rambunctious 7 year old. Together they make me a better person everyday.
Teaching has been my calling since early on. I tutored my peers and volunteered at an elementary afterschool program where I would assist with homework and tutoring during my highschool years. In 2004, I graduated from FIU with a Bachelors in Elementary Education. For the next 17 years I enjoyed every moment of teaching all grades between first through fifth. Every year is new, different and exciting. I look forward to every single one.
I am excited to meet and get to know my students and families this upcoming school year. I love adventures and learning new things. Welcome to the "Aventuras En Cuarto Grado 2021-2022" train. toot toot
