• What a weekend for the Kingwood Fillies!

The weekend of March 5-6 was a challenging but very successful one for the Kingwood Fillies!

Contest of Champions is a national contest which attracts teams from all over the nation to compete at the highest level.  This year, over 30 teams competed at this elite competition virtually, submitting videos of their contest dances.  During Winter Break, the Fillies worked hard to perfect their contest routines, filming officer and team lyrical at the end of the week, with the intention of filming the rest the week following.  Then, the winter storm changed all of those plans.  Dropping everything the Saturday of the next week, the Fillies came in and after a week of no practice, some students still without power and water, and filmed officer jazz, team jazz, and team kick.  Considering all of that , we were honored to be chosen for the first ever America's Showcase to be voted on by audience members across the nation.  They were ecstatic to find out that their winnings did not stop there.  Saturday, during the virtual awards show (which they viewed between dances while competing at their 2nd contest of the day), the officer places 2nd in their officer lyrical, only to be beat by their 1st place jazz performance.  Team placed first in their division for kick, jazz and open.  Team open and Team Kick also placed 1st overall regardless of team size.  We were the National Champion team in the large division and AMERICA'S CHOICE TEAM!  After finding out that they had just won the first ever America's Choice Virtual National Champions, they took the floor to compete that winning performance for a live audience.

They started their day at Crowd Pleasers where they were the first block of the competion.  After two days of competing teams had danced, they placed 1st runner-up of the entire competition.  Team Awards included Super Sweepstakes, Best in Class for all three dances (jazz, kick and lyrical), Outstanding Artistry for Lyrical, High Point of the for the jazz and kick, and runner-up high point for lyrical, and Team Jazz was the 1st place jazz of the day.  Officers placed 3rd overall, winning super sweepstakes, 1st runner-up for their contemprary and winning the jazz and lyrical division.  Individual awards were given to the following soloists:  9-10 graded solo, Cadence Lee was 6th runner-up.  11th graded soloist, Ally Clapp, 6th runner-up, Brooke Rogers, 3rd Runner-up, and Camille Burton, 2nd runner-up.

The team then traveled to Contest #2 at Cy-Ridge High School hosted by Ascension, where they awarded 1st overall team!  Other Team awards included judges award of excellence, winner of Jazz, kick and Lyrical in their division, overall winner of lyrical and jazz, academic excellence award, and grand champion super team.  Officer awards include judges award of excellence, 2nd runner-up contemporary, 1st runner-up lyrical, overall jazz winner, and 1st runner-up to overall lyrical, grand champion medium officer line, and 1st runner-up to overall grand champion officer line.  Solo winners included:  9-10 grade Kaitlyn Palacions, solo finalist, and Cadence Lee, 4th runner-up.  11th grade Camille Burton, solo finalist, and Winner Ally Clapp.  12th grade soloist:  Libby Peck and Megan Schmude, solo finalist, and Winner Lauryn Stetson.

Congratulations to the AMAZING YOUNG Ladies.  We are so very proud of each and every one of them!
