• Welcome to 4th Grade!

    All about me!

My name is Kate Ward and I am so excited to be continuing my journey here at Deerwood.

This is my third year on the fourth grade team! I have previously taught kindergarten (2007-2010) and third grade (2013-2016) at West U Elementary in Houston, TX. During my first gap in teaching my husband and I were living in New York City, where I worked as an office manager in finance. I absolutely loved living there, however we missed family and friends. My second gap was when we moved to Fosters Mill in Kingwood, where I have been raising my two amazing children, Owen who will be in second grade and Ethan who will be in the PRE-K Steps+ program at DWE . Although I was never far from the classroom, as I often subbed at Good Shepherd Episcopal School. In my free time I love to go out to eat, go to the movies, read, binge Netflix, swim, and have impromptu dance parties with my family!

I look forward to being back in the classroom, again this year, and being your child’s teacher!!

    Student Teacher

I am very excited to announce that for the fall semester I will have Ms. Sam Hurt as a student teacher in my classroom.

    My Philosophy of Education

I believe every child has the right to an equal education. They should be inspired and grow emotionally, intellectually, physically and socially. Every child has the right to feel safe and secure in the environment in which they are being taught. Every child has the right to discover who they are, and with that knowledge, accept and celebrate diversity. I believe every child has the right to develop love and respect for themselves and others through open sharing and learning in the classroom. Every child has the right to their voice being heard, understood and embraced. Every child has the right to a teacher that is patient, kind, loving, understanding and above all dedicated to her students.

-I wrote this my last year of college, and it is what I still believe 16 years later!
